Gran Toros, Sputafuoco, and Heisse Räder Supergross Race Sets

Gran Toros also came in race sets. Two race sets were issued for the North American market and three were issued in Italy. In addition, a Track Pak and a Racing Pack were available in North America.

Gran Toros Speed Strip Set contents. The Speed Strip Set included a Gran Toros T'rantula dragster, a Universal Clamp, an International Collector's Catalog, 6 pieces (12-feet) of hi-speed track and 6 joiners. Note that the T'rantula was only sold in this set for the USA market.

Gran Toros Match Race Set contents. The Match Race Set included two Gran Toros cars (usually a Ferrari Can Am and either a Chaparral or Astro II), a Universal Clamp, a Start Gate, a Finish Gate with Automatic Flag, an International Collector's Catalog, 12 pieces (24-feet) of hi-speed track and 12 joiners.

Italian Sputafuoco (Gran Toros) Record Mondiale (World Record) set.
  
Italian Sputafuoco Record Mondiale set contents. The set included a Gran Toros car, a Universal Clamp, 5 pieces of track (10-feet) and four joiners. Note that the Italian sets used regular Hot Wheels joiners instead of the Gran Toros joiners.

The flag indicates that the T'rantula is the winner. Well, OK, this picture is fake. The Torpedos are much faster than the T'rantulas.
  
While the european issue T'rantulas and Torpedos came with braking parachutes, "trap doors" to hold the parachutes (like in the Hot Wheels Mongoose and Snake sets) were never made. This picture enables us to imagine what might have been.
