Mebetoys Gran Champions Series Model #8563, Gulf Mirage
The Gulf Mirage began as the Ford GT-40 that was extensively modified to challenge Ferrari's dominance in endurance races such as Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans. Englishman John Wyer, who led the development of the Ford GT-40, developed the Mirage prototype that was sponsored by the Gulf Oil Company. The Gulf Mirage used a 3.0-litre V8 Ford Cosworth DFV (Double Four Valve) engine.
The Mebetoys 1/25 scale Gran Champions series first appeared in 1973 in the 1973 Mebetoys catalog. They continued to extended the Mebetoys line beyond the 1/43 scale following the Mebetoys 1/28-scale Gran Prix Series. The Gulf Mirage was one of the first 1/25-scale Mebetoys Gran Champions models.
