Mebetoys Le Veterane Model #8601, Alfa Romeo Grand Prix P2

The Alfa Romeo Grand Prix P2, driven by Antonio Ascari and Gastone Brilli-Peri, won the first Grand Prix World Championship in 1925. It was designed by Vittorio Jano who had been recruited from Fiat by Enzo Ferrari (Ferrari was a former race car driver for Alfa Romeo). The Alfa Romeo Grand Prix P2 was powered by a 1987 cc supercharged 140 horsepower straight 8 cylinder engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. ALFA is an acrynom for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. The 1/25 scale Mebetoys Le Veterane series first appeared in 1976 in the 1976 Mebetoys catalog. They also appeared in the three mid-1970s Mebetoys catalogs (mid-70s #1, mid-70s #2, mid-70s #3). There were only two of the Le Veterane series models released the other being the 1951 Alfetta 159, Model #8600. These models were very detailed and were mounted on a simulated wood base.
