Gran Toros / Sputafuoco ChaparralThe Gran Toros Chaparral, model number 6606, was based on the 1967 Chaparral 2F race car. The Chaparral 2F was powered by a 427 cubic inch (6997 cc) Chevrolet big block V8 engine that generated up to 525 horsepower and was the first of Jim Hall's Chaparral team race cars with a movable aerodynamic wing. The Chaparral 2F was raced at Daytona and LeMans by Phil Hill, Mike Spence, Bob Johnson, and Bruce Jennings. The model was converted from an existing Mebetoys model number A-23. For a period of time both models were made simultaneously until the Hot Wheels Gran Toros version (Sputafuoco) was discontinued. One of the original Gran Toros, it was part of the Sputafuoco and Heisse Räder Supergorss series and first appeared on the bottom of the North American box and the 1970 Mattel Toyfair catalog, the 1970 Mattel Italian Dealer catalog and the 1970 International catalog. |
